REMINISCING EXPO 2020

It was the same month last year when Dubai Expo 2020 open its door to the world. Well, it was year 2021 but you may wonder why it was named Expo 2020. It was supposed to open on year 2020 but due to Covid outrage they postponed it for a while. After a months of waiting when some of the countries lifted their travel ban, when everything is set in the UAE, Covid 19 is under control, the expo site become the next sought destination among residents and tourists.

I had an opportunity to visit the site multiple times since I got a multiple entry ticket and the place is near to where we work which is a great advantage. There are times that my co-workers and I will pay a visit after our office hours, agreed to explore the place in 1 to 3 hours, or on weekend with my immediate family here in Dubai. Every time I set my feet in Dubai expo site, I always get excited and amazed in everything I saw from within. Those gigantic building that has an impressive design, those concept that is uniquely shown when you explore each pavilion and those lesson you will eventually learn on your way out is one-of-a-kind experience that captures a happy memories in my heart.

Thank you to Expo 2020, I got a chance to see a various architectural design of different building which is represented by each country.

Spain- the first ever pavilion that my officemates and I visited on our first day.

Hola, Espana!

This art hanging at the top entertain us while walking from the main entrance down to the basement.

Beautifully art-crafted in Spain Expo Pavilion.
I will never forget this forest of the future as part of their exhibit in Spain Pavilion.
New Zealand Expo Pavilion – our 2nd stop
I know New Zealand as a country with good natural resources. Its therapeutic to sit in a corner and just watch how the nature miraculously help to rest our tired feet.

The Netherlands- we thought that there’s only few people lining up in this pavilion but we’re totally wrong. As we continue to walking on the basement, we were surprised to wait for atleast 30 minutes before we each the main entrance.

The Netherlands Expo Pavilion
The staff gave each one of us a white umbrella. We never know that we will used it to watch the short film about The Netherlands

We made a quick visit to Czech Republic Expo Pavilion

Sweden- Unlike other pavilion which is mostly covered, this pavilion stand out for being the ‘breath of fresh air’.

Brazil is our next destination after we ate our dinner.

A man-made river, something like Amazon basin, that enticed each visitor to dip their feet onto it while listening to the hymn of nature.

Azerbaijan- This distinctive tree-shaped somehow catch our eyes from afar.

A big thanks to the staff for taking a picture in one of the most photograph corner inside the Azerbaijan Pavilion.

Kuwait- We are forced to stop by in Kuwait Pavilion by just looking on a geometric design that display the image of camels during day time and transform into golden setting at night.

This giant funnel that greeted us upon entering in Kuwait Pavilion

Philippines- Even before the opening of expo, we already heard the news about Philippines pavilion circulated in the social media. We don’t want to miss this opportunity to see it by ourselves. Geographically speaking, our country is surrounded by water so they took the inspiration from it and called it as ‘Bangkota’ which means coral reef.

Magandang Buhay, Pilipinas!

One of the main attraction inside the Philippines pavilion is this art ‘Helix”- a towering spiral with some names etched on it.

Helix, nakakamangha ang gumawa. Ang Husay!

There’s also some exhibit where we watch a short clip from the 3-dimensional filigree boat as well as large screen on what is the Philippines primitive story.

Some of the exhibit shown inside the Philippines Pavilion

Korea- Lots of visitors lined up in this pavilion. We are so lucky to arrive at much earlier time after our office hours that gave us an advantage to have a shorter waiting period. While waiting for our turn, there’s a Korean group who perform in the side that entertain us for a while.

Korea Expo Pavilion 2020

It’s really amazing how they used the technology to stand uniquely among other pavilion. In the ground floor, the staff gave each one of us a free mobile phone where we register our name with our photo, used it to guide us on our exploration in their pavilion, used it for selfie whenever we want and before we head out, we will return it to them so that others can used it to. Their show is also different since we have to lie down to watch it which is good as it make us rest after a long duration of standing and walking.

We heart you, Korea!

Saudi- No wonder why this pavilion has a jampack of people always because they are one of the most extravagant building design in Expo. This inclined-mirrored screen garners a lot of attention among passerby as it showcase that Saudi is opening its window to the world.

You may think that Saudi is a a pure desert but look at this part where greenery is in full bloom.

Aside from showing the past, present and future of Saudi in their exhibition, we’re hooked on this “Vision” show in a 30 meter sphere.

Looks like a moon but we definitely enjoy this show!

Zimbabwe – One of the country I only know by books. Here we are trying to have a peek on its rich culture.

My officemate and I at Zimbabwe Pavilion
we’re enjoying our seat in Zimbabwe Pavilion.

Pakistan- Along with my DXB family, we had visited this pavilion to know more of Pakistan history. The colorful facade is a site-stopping area for many visitors as it serves a good backdrop to any photos.

DUBAI MIRACLE GARDEN v2019

One of the most amazing tourist spot here in UAE that you shouldn’t miss is Dubai Miracle Garden. Despite of being known as desert country, UAE has its own way of surprising their residents, expats and other tourists of reserving an area for a flower park which will give a jaw-dropping ‘wow‘ reaction once you explore the whole place.

Dubai Miracle Garden normally open during winter season. Before it closes next week, I got an opportunity to visit this place with my family. There’s actually a big difference on the flower display today compare years ago.

This giant tortoise really captured our eyes when we walk towards the entrance gate.

You will always look up to see these beautiful cat topiary.

With 72,000 sqm allotted area and more than millions of flower arrange in different style and pattern, all of us are so dazed to feel how close we are to nature by re-visiting this popular gem in Dubailand.

This is one attraction that I never seen before. Cartoon character in life-size forms.

Say hi to Mickey and friends that we mostly seen on TV but here they are bigger than the audience.

Another topiary that caught our attention is this elephant surrounded by fresh flowers in different colors.

I used to visit this themed-garden before but this is the first time I saw this elevated area that serve as viewing deck to see how well-groom the garden from above.

I’ve seen a photo before that this is just an umbrella passage but since those plants were planted many months ago, it grow in full bloom and became an additional shade for visitors.

Even the artistic design of a pot is something that left unnoticed.

My cousins from our home country who visited here for a months enjoying their moment on one of the most photograph spot in the garden.

Under this tiny bucket of plants is some table and chairs where a visitors can take a rest while munching some snack from different food kiosks.

A long line of gazebo where you can dine in under a flowery theme.

I love the idea of using some type of transportation as an additional display of creativity. A rustic car parked outside the garden.

A bus with the head of a dog beautifully dressed with colorful flowers.

Look at this boat plotted with flowers in circular shape.

One of the highlights in  Dubai Miracle Garden that anyone wish to see is this gigantic replica of A380 Emirates Airplane crafted with varieties of flowers.

As they said, woman’s hair is a crowning glory and this layer of flowers on her head is something that  you can easily recognize from afar.

It’s nice to see a couple being in love even in a simple metal structure. Agree?

This heart passage is another most-photograph spot in the garden. A ninja-move in me takes place just to capture this solo picture of my nephew.

Good to see a castle inside the garden.

Even the stair are aligned with the garden theme.

Walking for some hours will make our feet tired. Good to spot a swing on the side where we can rest for a while. I tried to sit here also and I must say, I want to do it again and again.

A tree with a branch of flowers…cool!

This is a flower garden so let me take some close up photo of those flowers.

A sea of sunflower that makes our day bright.

Another signature collection inside Dubai Miracle Garden is this enormous clock.

My DXB family from all age group.

Just before sunset and after our 3 hours of exploration, we decided to leave the garden with happy heart.

Even Dubai Miracle Garden will be temporarily close, we can hope that on the next season, new structure, new attraction and new set of flowers will blossom again.

Till next time…

OH LA LA..RIVERLAND

Visiting any country in Europe fascinates the dreamer in me. I can’t do it for now as I priories my time and budget for something else. So when I saw the replica of Europe on our day tour in Riverland my heart shouts like I almost won on the lottery. Riverland is part of Dubai Parks and Resort which is gaining a popularity to most of the tourists/locals in UAE. You only need to pay AED20.00 per car for parking fee and voila…you can enjoy Europe in the heart of Dubai free of cost.

This newly opened Dubai Parks and Resort is so huge that each visitors needs to ride in a mini-tram to reach the main gate. We came around 2pm and the queue is lengthy but worry no more as you don’t need to wait much longer because this mini-tram is always available every 3 to 5 minutes.

cho..cho…train….

There’s 3 theme park (LEGOLAND, Motiongate, Bollywood) and 1 water park (LEGOLAND water park) inside Dubai Parks and Resort. Of course, there’s an additional entrance fee on this 4 parks. If you’re short on budget and still want to see the best of Dubai Parks and Resort, then go ahead to Riverland which is the 1st station and portal to all parks.

When we start our walkaton on Riverland, we notice the architectural design of each houses. It’s not a residential house actually but it’s more of stores, establishment and restaurant whereas you only see most of these structure in European country.

Each and every spot in Riverland is a good scenic view. They call it French Village. I was in the bridge when I took this photo and it makes me relax while looking on this man-made river and towering houses.

I’m here in Dubai yet I feel I was in Europe because of these houses. Yehey!

This side of Riverland look likes an alleyways in one of European country I only see in the internet.

Not a typical house you can imagine in Dubai. This is why you must visit Riverland and see it by yourself.

If there’s no sign of Havaianas, I will jump into conclusion that this is a house. Even their store match with European theme.

LEGOLAND is a walking distance from Riverland. Someday, we can pay a visit to you but for now…we’re happy being outsider.

Look at this intricate design made of lego. Amazing!

I’ve been to different Mc Donald in the UAE but this branch is a bit different. Well, it is situated inside Riverland.

On my first  visit with my Dxb family, I took the photo of this restaurant and imagine the feelings of dining inside. Little did I know that simple imagination will attract the possibility when my office mates invited me for pre-Christmas dinner on this restaurant.

This is what we ordered for dinner. The food is good and comes in big serving.  We order some main course, and as per their promo, we got unlimited soup, bread and salad for free. Their gnocchi soup is something you would like to try again and again.

We also visited the Peninsula. Another zone in the Riverland.

The bridge during daytime.

The same bridge sparkling at night.

We are still full after our dinner so we decided to stay a bit and walk around. You can feel the Festive spirit here with these lights in every corner and a Christmas carol serenading you.

A gigantic Christmas tree to complete the season.

Another bar/restaurant to try here next time.

GLOBAL ENTRANCE

We were there as early as the opening hours which is 4pm. We always prefer to see its basking beauty while sun is up till it was blanket with glamorous light at night. See, people lining up in the ticketing area as early as possible  because they know more and more visitor will surely come after.

Right after we enter the huge gate, our eyes are rolling to the beautiful façade surrounding us. Be ready with your camera as every spot is really a good keepsake. Here are 9 things you can do in Global Village:

There’s a big stage in the central area where you can watch different performers for free. Most of the events/raffle announcements were done here. 6. Dancing fountain

I’m not sure if it 6pm or 6:30pm (start) but you will definitely feel relax watching the fountain. The water will dance accordingly when the music start to play on. That time it was Celine Dion’s “My heart will go on” playing in the background.

So before Global Village close its 20th season by April, please pay a visit and allow yourself to also experience what I mentioned above.

DUBAI MIRACLE GARDEN

One of the most visited tourist destination here in Dubai especially during cold season is Dubai Miracle Garden. It attracts a lot of locals, expats and even foreign visitors who wish to see a place totally different from what we heard about UAE. Dubai in particular is always define as a busy city due to its number of business district, evidenced with high rise building and shopping haven to some. Yes, there are area where you can see a spot of nature but most of the time our eyes are fix with those things that reminds how Dubai had maintain its progressiveness over the years.

Aside from ongoing infrastructure left and right, it was a bright idea to continue its legacy of showing that Dubai has a place where they can cultivate plants and flowers which is surprising to non-residents and highly appreciated by us who wanted a change of view. This is one of the reason why Dubai Miracle Garden becomes popular.

Come inside....

Come inside….

Forget about your office works, your shopping list, everything about city life because once you come inside you will see a different Dubai. You will definitely appreciate the greenery and colorful flowers around. Let the photos from my phone do the talking.

I heart Dubai!

One fine afternoon when we visited the Dubai Miracle Garden.  Each and every area is walk-stopping as you can’t missed not to set your phone/digicam for remembrance.

Look at these houses....

Dubai Miracle Garden runs on seasonal basis every year mostly on ber-months till the end of winter. This is actually my first time to step in as my last garden visit happens in Al Ain few years back. According to those who get a chance to visit it annually they said that design are not all the same.

THE WALK

We had a blissful afternoon weekend at The Walk. It was actually an urgent meet up with our family friend last friday who came all the way from Abu Dhabi to handover some important things to us. Aside from chatting with their family, that meet up gave us the opportunity to explore the beautiful The Walk at Jumeirah Beach Residence. I’ve been there few times but my astonishment on the place never gone less every time I step my feet on it. Luckily, our meeting point is near in Hilton Hotel which is a place totally new to me.

As the name suggest, walking is the best way to discover each street in The Walk. It has a long promenade where restaurants, café, shopping center and boutiques are too many to pay a visit.

one of the cafes....

20150821_142000

I thought locals/tourists will avoid the area during midday (summer) because of extreme heat but I was wrong. People flock in no particular timing. The Walk seems busy day and night. Ps: I wait some people pass before I took the photos.

20150821_135704

20150821_140752

The raging UV rays was so high that afternoon so we decided to take a quick stopover in Reel Cinema, The Beach. Galing noh! I thought cinemas are always connected with shopping mall but here in The walk it was built separately and can be considered as successful establishment on its own.

20150821_140609

There are plenty of restaurant in The Walk but my cousin insisted to visit Dubai Marina Mall instead. It’s her first time so I let her experience the less-crowded mall.

20150821_152730

We were in the comfort of our house for the past weekends (months). As usual, going out and eating outside is a cheat day for us. Oh burger and French fries…its been long time since we had you in our table..nakaka miss din naman mag Mc Do.

20150821_144211

Good to know that Dubai Marina Mall is connected to newly open Dubai Tram. We don’t know when will be our next escapade to this place so we better not to miss the chance of riding a Dubai Tram.

20150821_160413

Dubai Tram is not as big (in terms of length/passenger’s capacity) as Dubai Metro but I know it was built for the convenience of passengers who want to stay away from the congested road of Dubai Marina/Jumeirah area. We’re all first timers so excitement kicks every time we stop on each station. Ansaya lang.

20150821_154727

Dubai Tram (inside)

I really appreciate our experience because Dubai Tram is not crowded. Imagine we’re only few passengers in the train so we can move freely. We can even shift from one seat to another. Is it because of weekend or not rush hour? Anyway, it was a good catch at fare AED 3.00 from Dubai Marina Mall Station to Al Sofouh.

One of the perks of riding in a not so crowded train is the chance to see the external beauty of surrounding on your window seat.

More things/area are actually good spot for photo session but I decided to just enjoy the ride and do nothing. This Al Sofouh Station is the end of our Dubai Tram journey and we’re heading back to our abode.

20150821_160248

This is how we spend our Friday afternoon trying our first on everything.

GATEWAY TO THE SUN

Think of any Middle East country and for sure having a vast desert is one description that automatically included in your check off list. Like what we saw in the news, most of them upgraded their standard of living with lots of ongoing infrastructure and building project as evidence. Thus, a land that were once dominated with sand is now a nest of towering residential or commercial establishment. Dubai is 1 great example of modern emirates. Very busy day and night not only with locals but also the outnumber of tourists who wish to see the improvement on this city.

I’m not sure how many hotels are exactly built here in Dubai but when you walk from different street you will definitely found one. Well, its common sight closed to city center because here where most of touristy place are located. If you want to spend your day away from the bustling life in the city then better to pay a visit to Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa. . It is one of a kind hotel nestled in the middle of the desert. Bab Al Shams in Arabic means “gateway to the sun’ which is really manifested once you saw the whole vicinity.

Going to Bab Al Shams took less than 1 hour. Thanks to GPS, we never get lost in the road. We arrive in the hotel earlier than we expected. Unlike other hotel where you can easily see from afar the totality of its exterior design Bab Al Shams has its own entrance gate making you curious to find out what’s inside. The hotel was built in low-rise style making it unique from what we usually saw in the city.

Come inside.....

Our first step in the hotel gave us an impressive traditional Dubai look. We sat here while my colleague was there in reception for the booking confirmation.

There’s so many reason to stay in Bab Al Shams. I like how they maintain the simple setting yet luxury in experience, a peaceful surrounding that offers comfortable stay and a unique location where you are transported in the heart of the desert to fully embrace the good ambience between YOU, HOTEL, SUN and SANDS.

SUMMER IN WINTER

Oh January, a month where most of my time were occupied by reporting works. Though I’m a bit busy after the holidays, I tried my best to join my Dxb family on weekend bonding. It’s my simple way to rest, relax and recharge. Good to know some of my cousins are free to host our simple yet adventurous Friday getaway in Jumeirah last Jan. 16.

dxbfam

There’s a private swimming pool in our favorite hangout place so we better use it to the fullest. Believe it or not, its 18deg in Dubai, apparently fall on winter/cold level in most of desert countries, but we find no excuses to have outdoor fun. No need to wait for summer months to enjoy this 3 to 8ft pool. We bring in advance the summer momentum in spite of winter season.

After our sumptuous lunch, we change our ‘pang-april’ outfit to start our swimming galore. We were advised that the pool is equipped with heater so the water remains warm despite of temperature drop down. Iyon namn pala. Mas masaya toh….

The most fun-tastic happenings on the 1st month of the year…..

Its summer in Winter!

Its summer in Winter!

I’m not sure how many of you bravely embrace the beach/swimming pool during colder months but believe me, its not the water nor the air that makes you cold but the fun experience you will miss if you didn’t try. So keep on bringing summer in winter!

AL MAMZAR BEACH PARK

While other expats are still in bed fully cover with blanket and enjoying the recent changes of weather, we found ourselves heading to Al Mamzar Beach Park one early morning. Our family friend invited us for a brunch picnic + swimming in Mamzar and who can say no to a weekend adventure like this. So before the temperature drop to its lowest degree we bravely conquer the cold air and armed with swimming gear (for our niece) and ready-to-eat food we met them at the backside parking area. FYI: Aed30 entrance ticket per car and Aed5 per pax.

mamzar14

We been here many years ago with my immediate Dxb family but this will be our 1st time not to get a cottage. Instead, we used the beach mat and the grass is our temporary home space for that day.

trees2

Sitting in the grass gave us a super close view to all trees surrounding the Park. It’s a green feast and funniest day for kids on both our family. They keep running around and their ready-to build bahay-bahayan is such a winner for these two babies. Amidst kids busyness, the adults are having so much fun in chit-chatting and munching the potluck food we had.

picnic

One of the best feature of Al Mamzar is being 2 in 1 destination. Aside from huge Park, you can also enjoy the vast area of coastline which will give you free access to a white beach. Don’t worry about your things because there are lot of cottages near the swimming area and even you just put your bag/slippers down on powdery sand like what we did is simply out of question. There’s also a clean toilet where you can change your clothes. A combination of cold water and warm sunlight gave every swimmer a way to love more dipping in the water. Even our group spend more time in the beach.

When the sun was up, we return to the Park to spend the rest of our lazy afternoon. Thanks to all trees that provide a good shed while we’re lying in the grass. Some of the leftover food was also a treat for our tiring body.

I think we’re not yet going home so I decided to walk a step away from where we seated. There I found another must-visit area in Al Mamzar — a 3 level wooden house where you will be elevated to see the awesome view of places surrounding the park.

I’m sure with all leafy trees around some birds are considering it as their home. I’m so lucky to find 2 lovely birds humming in the branch when I was walking back to our picnic area.

We are so thankful for the invitation. It’s so cold yet we’re actually enjoying this kind of season as well as having chance to bond with our family friends. Good thing to know that Al Mamzar Beach Park is indeed a family-oriented destination and located not too faraway from the usual city area.

ATLANTIS AT NIGHT

Atlantis the Palm in Jumeirah is not a new place to me. I have seen its beauty in daytime when the number of visitors are almost doubled. No wonder why this 5 star Hotel and Resort is always on the bucket list of many local and expat in Dubai because of its hidden photographic scenery and an assurance of total enjoyment during your entire stay. It’s my guilty pleasure to be here once again..but now to see how every master piece glows in the dark. I am captivated when I first step in our afternoon escapade then I thought nothing will change as time pass by. As usual, I am wrong. It’s a different story when all lights are on. These lights added more life to an ordinary display which in effect gave you another reason to be more appreciative.

ATLANTIS MINIATURE

ATLANTIS MINIATURE

The big Chihuly Scuplture built on the reception area is already an eye-catcher inside the Atlantis. It is considered as 1 of the camera-friendly spot so don’t be surprise if people flock around it.

IMG_9639

As I look above, it is evidenced how the artist used his talent to conceptualized a design that is well-accepted by many. It seems there’s some fire on the tip but actually this is only the aftermath of light and color.

There’s a lot of interesting artwork I found inside this prestigious hotel. Like this colorful canvas in the ceiling.

The appearance of the hotel became more vibrant at night because of many chandelier/lamp distributed in every corner.

I even stumble in one hallway and found this amazing design which having a resemblance of a window. This is the magical effect of light illumination.

Since Atlantis the Palm is connected with water  most of their interior design is also aquatic-related.

Thank you Atlantis for giving me a chance to see your charm both on daytime and twilight. You never failed to impress me and those other guest with your stunning layout. Hopefully on my next visit (wishful thinking), I could try your many activities which according to some of my friends is also jaw-dropping and exciting.
